Small Business Spotlight - Rachel Tenny

Hey guys! We're kicking off the new year with a new monthly blog series! Once a month we'll showcase an amazing small business owner. You'll get to know all about their business, how they started it, what they sell, and a few extra fun facts!
So let's kick it off with our first business owner, Rachel Tenny!

Rachel Tenny

What inspired you to start your company?
The business began as a hobby when my husband and I moved to Columbia, SC. I had a 9-5 job which I didn't love at the time and wanted to have a creative outlet. About a year after I started the business, it had grown significantly and I was able to leave that job and begin graduate school for counseling. My heart now is the same as it was there: to inspire and encourage others to believe in their abilities and love themselves!
What is your favorite part of being an entrepreneur?
FLEXIBILITY! I love being able to create my own schedule and fill my days with projects that fire me up! I also enjoy the flexibility of not having to answer to a certain time schedule and being able to go for walks with my pups during the day and have lunch/coffee with my girlfriends. Both of those things probably make you think that I hang out in PJ's all day with my dogs, which is partially true, but I promise I get lots of work done too!
What are some of the biggest challenges you've faced and how have you overcome them?
One of the biggest challenges when starting my business is that I had NO idea what I was doing. I had no idea how to file a business licenses or pay sales tax...or even that I needed to do either of those things. Luckily, I started a group of business women in my city and they were all in different stages of business. They were so gracious to me and helped me out immensely during the first little bit of my business! Another thing that has been hard is having products that aren't as successful as I thought they would be! I have had several things that I was fired up about early in my business that just didn't sell as well as I thought. I learned never to be 100 of something if you have no idea how it will do and to not beat yourself up. Just because people don't love something as much as you do, doesn't mean you've failed by any means! And it also shouldn't keep you from continuing to create
What are some of your favorite products in your store right now?
Some of my favorite products in my store are part of my #mybodyisneough collection! I have lots of encouraging little sayings on the packs of cards and prints I make hope they can inspire women to love themselves and their bodies just as they are. Also, just launched a bunch of fun new patterns for pillows and the cacti and pineapple ones are my favorite!
What is the one thing you'd love to tell people who are new to your brand?
If you own a business-never give up or stop chasing your dream!
If you don't own a business-be sure to support other small businesses who are chasing theirs!

Favorite Food:
Curry and anything else spicy!
Favorite TV Show:
Right now it's Shameless. We stopped buying cable a few years ago, so we are big fans of binge watching series on Netflix. If there is a show I really want to watch though, I'll make sure I head to the gym at the time it's on! :)
Favorite Drink:
Coffee with skim milk during the day and Cab (love red wine!) at night
Favorite Saying:
You are beautiful, you are loved, you are so much more than enough.
Favorite Movie:
I honestly don't watch a ton of movies, but my favorite movie I saw recently was Zootopia! I recommend it, even if you are an adult with no kids! :)
